This five-day residential course is focused on conflict in church settings, and serves as the foundation for further Bridge Builders courses.

Presenters

The course will be led by Alastair McKay and Liz Holdsworth.  Alastair is director of Bridge Builders, and has been providing training, mediation and consultancy services to churches since 1996.  He has an MA in Conflict Transformation, is studying for a Doctorate of Ministry, and has contributed to the books Making Peace With Conflict (Herald Press, 1999) and How to Become a Creative Church Leader (Canterbury Press, 2008).  Liz is Co-Ministry Partnership Development Officer in the Anglican Diocese of Peterborough, and belongs to the Bridge Builders Network.  She is an experienced adult educator, and in her current role develops and delivers training courses with a focus on supporting lay and ordained leaders working together.

This three-day training course is designed to enhance participants' capacity to offer mature leadership within their churches. It draws on the insights of Murray Bowen's Family Systems Theory, and is a successor to the well-received course Church Leadership & Family Systems, which Bridge Builders has offered for several years. Christian leaders are welcome to apply, regardless of whether they have attended any previous Bridge Builders course.

Colin Patterson is assistant director of Bridge Builders, and an Anglican priest.  He has worked as a training officer for the Diocese of Durham, and is an experienced adult educator. He is author of the Grove booklet How to Learn Through Conflict, and a contributor to 101 Great Ideas for Growing Healthy Churches.

Liz Holdsworth is Co-Ministry Partnership Development Officer in the Anglican Diocese of Peterborough, and belongs to the Bridge Builders Network.  She is an experienced adult educator, and in her current role develops and delivers training courses with a focus on supporting lay and ordained leaders working together.

The course will be led by Sandra Cobbin and Rupert Ward. Sandra is an independent trainer and consultant, who belongs to the Bridge Builders Network. She works with business and church leaders on management and leadership skills. Rupert Ward leads a church in the centre of Edinburgh and has experience of training leadership groups in other churches & charities. He is a member of the International Association of Facilitators and has also trained in Counselling and Theology.
