Alastair McKay, Executive Director

Alastair co-founded Bridge Builders in 1996, and has overseen the development and expansion of its ministry since then.  He works with the trustees of Bridge Builders Ministries in setting the direction for the organisation.  His role includes heading up the staff team, leading training courses and workshops, and providing coaching, consultancy and mediation services.

Alastair worships at St. James’ Church, Muswell Hill, in London, and is a candidate for ordination in the Church of England.  A former teacher then civil servant, he heard a call to peace-making in 1994, when he was one of the elders leading the Wood Green Mennonite Church, and attended a mediation skills course at the London Mennonite Centre. He is studying part-time for a Doctorate of Ministry through Spurgeon’s College. The research project for his dissertation has focussed on how the staff teams of large Anglican churches deal with tensions and disagreement in their team meetings.

Alastair is blessed to be the husband of Sue and father of Eleanor (born 1995) and James (born 1997).  He enjoys playing tennis, and going to the gym in readiness for skiing.  He follows Leeds United AFC, and also now enjoys watching his children’s football team, Arsenal.  His musical passions include the music of Bruce Cockburn and Show of Hands.  Among others, he enjoys the novels of Dorothy Dunnett and Susan Howatch.  He hopes one day to lead a quieter life!
