Want to refresh some of the key ideas from TC1?
This workshop is designed for people who have previously completed a Bridge Builders Transforming Conflict 1/Transforming Church Conflict course. (see below*) It’s one of a series called Just Remind Me?, offering opportunities to refresh and build on some of the key ideas from the foundation course and embed those ideas in our practice and local context.
Thinking about power
Power is one of the most difficult subjects to talk about, and in times of tension and conflict, power is often spoken about in negative or even dangerous terms – “it’s an abuse of power!” Our thinking about power, particularly when under stress, is frequently either/or, and so conflicts are seen as power struggles with all the assumptions that term brings about the motives of those involved.
This short workshop provides opportunities to explore and deepen our understanding of power, to develop more nuanced thinking as we recognise the different ways in which power can be used for good or for ill, and the multiple different sources of power we draw on, often subconsciously, in our relationships and in our exercise of leadership.
With insights from scripture, and from system thinking, we’ll reflect on how, as leaders, we accept and inhabit a landscape where both our power and our powerlessness is held in tension.
Book for this workshop if you found you wish to reflect more on using your power as a leader well, and how you might engage others in understanding the power dynamics at work in your context.
